Hi,
sorry to make my first post a plea for help, but here goes.

I am the proud owner of a 2013 Jaguar XF 3.0d S Portfolio which I bought from less than six months ago from a main dealer along with the 2 year used approved warranty. I've had several options fitted by a different Jaguar dealer including the chrome air vents and the car was back at this new dealer for the illuminated tread plates to be fitted. The new dealer, however contacted me to say that prior to fitting the new plates they had found water ingress in the fns passenger foot well when they have pulled the carpet up (there is no visible evidence in the cabin of any water damage and everything is working fine).

The problem is now that the new dealer wants me to pay for diagnostic to see were the water is getting in and the main dealer I purchased the vehicle from don't seem to want to know.

I am gutted and don't know what to do for the best.

when I bought the car I was under the impression that all used approved came with a check list confirming the vehicle had had multi point checks and was totally sound ,but no such report was enclosed with my paperwork.

Please, any advice ?

I thought the approved warranty could be dealt with by any jag main dealer.
I bought my last one from Grange in Swindon, but HA Fox Southampton replaced door lock under guarantee.

Possible places: if the windshield has been replaced a hole in the bonding is a common source of water leaks. The hvac intake system has water drains which might be blocked causing water to accumulate in the AC evaporator box either from rain or condensation. The door seals should be looked at and the closed door alignment. And if you have a sunroof it is not impossible that the sunroof drain tube has come adrift.

Charging for diagnostics is a very old warranty rip off scam. I'd say no, it's covered by warranty. You find it and fix it and send the bill to the warranty company.

In your shoes, I'd be going straight back to the main guy (is it the dealer principal these days? ) at the garage you purchased the car, tell him how you've been fobbed off by his staff, and to add insult to injury, his "colleague" in another dealership is trying to tuck you up ( to hit their bonus targets, no doubt) . Would he exoected to be treated in a similar way if he'd invested quite a few £k in a premium brand?

And if if he can't find the fault, you want a full refund as the car is unfit for for purpose, as it'll soon be worthless once water changes to rot. Not to say smelly carpets.
Once that gets onto a mot history even as an advisory, you'll struggle to sell or part ex the car anywhere. Trust me, it's a time bomb waiting to happen.

This is a serious fault.

Write to him (find out his name ) using signed for delivery and say you'll escalate to legal means to extract the necessary refund. That's soon get a fire under the useless staff who originally fibbed or fobbed (or both) you off.

and make sure you get a loaner whilst they're sorting yours out properly.

Don't get fobbed of, corrosion is terminal in any car.

As as for the multipoint check, don't believe it. Mine was sold to me with low oil, and four out of balance tyres. It's clear no one checked it over, apart from a polish and valet. What's even worse is that it was their own demonstrator , so that just shows a lack of care from the very people who owned it . As it happens, they're no longer selling jags which I guess is poetic justice.

What goes around comes around, don't you just love certain dealers? Happy to take your cash, but look the other way when you need help.
No wonder Some call them stealers.

We had a passenger side water leak on a X-Type via a partially blocked under bonnet drain. The surplus water was making it's way inside the car by way of the pollen filter. The resulting damage to the electronics resulted in major repair costs, so I would push to get it sorted before the warranty period is up. I am pretty anal about checking for dampness around front foot wells now.

Common problem especially for transverse drivetrains. There is a substantial closed in space between the firewall proper and the false firewall at the back of the engine compartment. There are drains in the bottom of this space and they plug up with debris washed in from the base of the windshield.

This problem was so common for the SAAB 9000 that aficionados of the marque refer to this area as "the aquarium" and all SAAB 9000 owners know exactly why and where it is.
